When this year started, I ran the Resolution Run 5K with friend form the Woo Hoo Crew and finished in a paltry 34 minutes. So that night, I wrote two running goals done to drive both my training and to keep me focused. Goal 1: Run and Finish a Half-Marathon. Goal 2: Run a 5k under 25 minutes. I believed both of these were attainable with training and the help of friends (Thanks Crew!). On April 28, I ran and finished Owls Roost Trail Half Marathon to check off Goal 1. Then, today on May 12, I ran the Go Far 5k with my student running club from school. I had no plans to run hard and had planned on a 28-29 minute finish. I did not stick to that pace though as I ran with a couple of my runners through miles 1 and 2. As I rounded the turn, I looked down at my watch and noticed I was running a 7:50 pace. I finished strong with a time of 24:10, so Goal 2 has been checked.
I’ve spent part of my afternoon planning two new goals for the reminder of the year. Goal 1 (or 3 if you prefer): Run and finish a marathon in respectable shape. I will be training for this with the WHC as we plan for the Kiawah Marathon in December. Goal 2 (or 4): Run a 10K under 48 minutes. This goal will take a little training and some more speed work, but I believe it should be easy. The only 10K I have planned is the Hit the Brixx 10K in October followed by a 5K right after. With the help of the Woo Hoo Crew, I hope to make 2012 my best running year ever.
