As part of the Virtual 12athon, Melanie J., Melanie W., Daniel, Nathan, and Katie ran 5.17 miles today in honor of Syttende Mai. Just in case you don’t know what Syttende Mai is, it is pretty much the Norwegian equivalent of our independence day. The Norwegian constitution was signed on May 17, way back in 1814. At that time, Norway was under Swedish rule. Wikipedia says the college kids are the ones who began the celebrations even though the Swedish king tried to forbid celebrations of the day. We figured they must have acted like jackasses so we might as well, too.
I sewed flags for everyone to pin to their shirts and we got down with 5.17 miles around Guilford College. Carole and Lauren also joined us for the run. Post run we did a little Norwegian dancing and core work and headed to Taqueria El Azteca for dollar tacos. It’s always a great night when the Woo Hoo Crew gathers for miles and drinks!
